Shockwave Therapy at Haerenga Hauora

Iti noa ana he pito mata
From a withered tree, a flower blooms

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses sound waves to stimulate your body’s healing processes. It’s especially useful for long-term injuries or chronic pain that hasn’t improved with other therapies like physio or massage.

At Haerenga Hauora, we use medical-grade ESWT technology to help reduce pain, improve movement, and speed up recovery. It’s a great alternative to cortisone injections and is available at our Whau Valley clinic with two trained osteopaths on board.

How Can Shockwave Therapy Help?

Shockwave Therapy works by delivering targeted acoustic waves to injured or inflamed tissues. This encourages natural healing by:

  • ✅ Boosting blood flow

  • ✅ Reducing inflammation

  • ✅ Accelerating tissue repair and regeneration

If you’re dealing with chronic pain, tendinitis, or an injury that’s not healing, shockwave may be the missing piece in your recovery plan. Our osteopaths may recommend it as a standalone option or alongside hands-on therapy, like Osteopathy or Acupuncture.

Is Shockwave Therapy Right for You?

This treatment is particularly effective for:

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Tennis or golfer’s elbow

  • Achilles tendinitis

  • Patellar and quadriceps tendinitis

  • Shoulder and hip bursitis

  • Shoulder calcifications

  • Chronic muscle or joint pain

If pain is lingering and hasn’t responded to other approaches, this may be the reset your body needs.

What to Expect During Treatment:

Your first session includes a consultation where we assess your symptoms, history, and mobility. We’ll confirm whether shockwave is appropriate for your condition and talk you through what to expect.

During the session:

  • We use an advanced ESWT machine to deliver high-frequency sound waves to the affected area

  • The sensation is often described as similar to deep tissue massage

  • Each session lasts 15 to 30 minutes

  • You’ll receive a personalised exercise plan to support healing between treatments

It’s normal to feel a little soreness after the session - similar to post-workout fatigue. We’ll provide you with aftercare guidance to support your recovery.

What Makes Our Shockwave Therapy Different?

At Haerenga Hauora, we use an advanced ESWT (Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy) machine - not the basic radial units you might find elsewhere. Unlike radial or focused shockwave therapies, our ESWT machine:

  • Deeper penetration into tissue

  • More effective Stimulation

  • Faster results for more conditions

How Many Sessions Will You Need?

Most clients see noticeable improvement within 3 to 5 sessions, usually spaced a week apart. Your practitioner will tailor a treatment plan to your needs, ensuring the best outcomes for your condition and lifestyle.
