How Can Counselling Help?

Sometimes, it’s easier to talk with someone outside your immediate circle – someone who gets it and won’t judge. That’s where counselling comes in.

Whether you’re dealing with emotions that feel too big, unhelpful behaviours, or difficult situations, counselling provides a space to be heard, understood, and supported.

At Haerenga Hauora, your counsellor is a trained, registered professional who will work with you using a client-led, strengths-based approach. We tailor each session to the person in front of us – no pressure, no cookie-cutter plans.

Is Counselling Right for You?

Counselling at Haerenga Hauora can be particularly beneficial if you’re experiencing:

  • Low moods, lack of motivation or general sense of blah

  • Anxiety or isolating behaviours

  • Anger or frustration

  • Neurodivergent overwhelm, masking, or shutdowns

  • Stress or overwhelm

  • Struggles with school, routines, or friendships

  • Difficulty coping with life changes

  • Parenting challenges or family stress

We primarily support young people aged 5–25, as well as parents and caregivers seeking support for whānau dynamics or behavioural strategies.

What to Expect from Counselling

Counselling at Haerenga Hauora is a partnership. You’re in the driver’s seat, setting the pace and deciding how to use our time together - whether that means diving deeply into a specific issue or shifting focus, our sessions are tailored to your unique needs and goals.

We offer parenting support - or family therapy (as needed), with a focus on respectful communication, reducing blame, and building sustainable tools that work outside the clinic. We encourage curious exploration and work towards future-focused solutions. Our goal is to address any hara (conflict) in a way that feels affirming for everyone involved, and to help you work towards your future goals - together.

Funded Avenues:

Counselling at Haerenga Hauora is offered through our private clinic, which means most clients pay per session. You can view our current pricing here

We work with several third-party funders who help make counselling more accessible. Depending on your situation, you may qualify for fully funded or subsidised support.

How Often Should You Come?

Consistency and continuity of care are essential for progress. That's why we offer weekly or fortnightly recurring appointments so you have a consistent time, space, and rhythm to your care. This is especially helpful for young people who benefit from routine and predictability.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and are held on the same day and time each week or fortnight, so your spot is just for you.

Whether you’re working through something challenging or just need a consistent place to land and reset, we’re here to walk alongside you.
