WHAT IS COUNSELLING?
Counselling is a form of talk therapy that provides a safe, non-judgmental space for you to navigate life’s challenges and freely express yourself. At Haerenga Hauora, we believe you are the expert in your own life. Our role as a counsellor is to facilitate kōrero in a way that helps you delve deeper into what is going on, with the intention to help pull apart and gain clarity on surrounding issues. Together, we’ll untangle the complexities, gain clarity, and empower you to take back control, re-inviting joy and purpose into your journey.
HOW CAN IT HELP?
Our counsellors are trained, registered professionals equipped with a toolbox of empathetic and evidence-based techniques. Whether you’re grappling with difficult emotions, behaviors, thoughts, or situations, we’re here to provide the awhi (support) you need. Sometimes, it’s easier to talk to someone outside your usual circle—someone who can offer a fresh perspective and keep everything confidential. That’s where we come in, creating a space that’s both comforting and constructive.
IS IT FOR ME?
Counselling at Haerenga Hauora can be particularly beneficial if you’re experiencing: - Low moods and motivation - Anxiety or isolating behaviors - Anger or frustration - Neurodivergent struggles - Stress or overwhelm - Relationship difficulties - Difficulty coping with life changes
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Counselling at Haerenga Hauora is a partnership. You’re in the driver’s seat, and our sessions are tailored to your unique needs and goals. You set the pace, and you decide how to use your time—whether that means diving deep into a particular issue or shifting gears to something new. For couples and family therapy, we foster a space free of judgment or blame, focusing instead on curious exploration and future-focused solutions. We aim to address any hara (conflict) in a way that’s affirming for all involved.
WHAT MODALITIES DO YOU USE?
Think of counselling like a pick-and-mix lolly bag—not every technique will resonate with everyone, and that’s okay! Our counsellors are trained in a variety of approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), Strengths-Based Approaches, Narrative Therapy, and Art Therapy. If you’re seeking a specific modality, let’s chat beforehand to ensure we can meet your needs.
HOW OFTEN DO I COME?
Consistency and continuity of care are key! That’s why we have recurring counselling spots on a fortnightly or weekly basis for all clients (unless you’re coming for supervision)
